Today I am writing to you guys in English, because even though it is not our main language we can understand every word. Today I write this so that everyone can understand what’s happening in our home. I write this so that the people who don’t speak Spanish can understand and can stand with us.
Our island, our beautiful island has been infected with an awful desease called corruption. A decease for which we have fought for years to stop but we haven’t been able to. Our voices have been silenced so many times by the government. Our capabilities have been underrated far too many times as well. This time, we’ve had enough, this time we fight against a man who has been destroying our beloved island ever since he was elected governor and even before that when his father was governor too.
Our story starts with young Ricardo Rosello, who in 1994 was responsible for the deaths of 2 people who were easily forgotten because of... you guessed it, corruption! His father paid off the scandal! This young murderer moved on with his life, studying in the best schools, driving fancy cars and traveling all over the world with the money that was stolen from us by his father. When his father’s term concluded, everything was “forgotten”. We then elected a list of corrupts who I’m not gonna mention today so I don’t lose focus.
After his father’s awful and corrupt government, you would think that people would learn, but you are wrong! In 2016, our young murderer was a candidate for governor. He failed every single debate and showed over and over how incapacitated he was to govern. He showed how much of a liar and a pathetic human he could be.
But here, in our beautiful island, there are people who still believe that statehood can happen (which is imposible, we are a colony of the United States). This group of people who still believe in statehood are called the “PNP” party, some of which are capable of giving their vote to a chicken if that’s the candidate for their party.
Because of these people and other lunatics, we ended up with Ricardo Rosello as governor. He has done everything wrong, from the beginning of his term. He has closed schools, tampered with our health system, underestimated the repercussions of Hurricane Maria and he even stole food and water to use it for his political campaign while we were starving and DYING. He made deals with ghost companies and has stolen MILLIONS of dollars from our island.
A few days ago a chat was filtered all over the news and social media. It is a chat where a lot of political clowns speak and plan the lies they show on the news to fool us into thinking everything is fine while they steal our money and our rights.
Our sick governor even made the following expression which I’ll translate afterwards: “Ja! Gran trabajo guys! Cogemos de pendejo hasta a los nuestros.”. Which means “great job guys, we can fool even our own people” referring to people who voted for him and even helped him during his campaign. In this chat he denigrates women and even makes homophobic and misogynistic comments.
After this chat came to light, he made a pathetic attempt at gaining forgiveness by going to a church and broadcasting a fake apology. He went to the house of a guy that worked with him during his campaign and again, broadcasted a fake apology. He said the guy is so fat he has his own gravitational space. Expressions that we can only expect from a child and even a child has more mental capacity to know when things are just wrong and disrespectful. He is not sorry for the expressions he made, he is sorry he got caught.
Our island has joined, we have joined and we only have one request: his resignation. Which if you think about it is not even enough with everything he has done. We want him gone, we want him to face what he’s done. I have only one request for you, join us in this fight! Hear our voices and shout with us. Make our problem known. Help us make our governor pay for what he’s done. Use the hashtag #RickyRenuncia and stand with us, I promise you, we are worth it, our island is worth respect and dignity.
